Four Kansas schools receive National Blue Ribbon recognition

Four Kansas schools were named National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2016 based on their overall academic excellence.

The schools receiving the award are: Challenger Intermediate School, Goddard USD 265; Chanute Elementary School, Chanute USD 413; McKinley Intermediate Elementary School, Abilene USD 435 and Wheatridge Middle School, Gardner Edgerton USD 231.

All four received the recognition as Exemplary High Performing Schools, which means they are among the state’s highest performing schools as measured by assessments and national tests.

In announcing the recognition of 329 schools nationwide, U.S. Education Secretary John King said, “National Blue Ribbon Schools are proof that we can prepare every child for college and meaningful careers. Your schools are on the cutting edge, pioneering innovative educational practices — professional learning communities, project-based learning, social and emotional learning, positive behavior systems—making you shining examples for your communities, your state and the nation."
