Reminder: School boards must pass resolution on term expiration dates
Changes made by the Legislature to the way school board members are elected will require school boards to pass a resolution stating that the terms of board members that would have expired during 2017 will now expire in January 2018.
There is no definitive date on when the resolutions should be passed, although it is advised that it is passed prior to the expiration of the board members’ original terms (June 30, 2017). Boards can also pass it much sooner if they desire. A sample resolution can be found here.

In 2015, the Legislature approved moving school board general elections from the spring of odd-numbered years to November of odd-numbered years. The change means that term expiration dates for school board members scheduled to expire in 2017 under the old law will now expire Jan. 8, 2018.
