Advisory group makes open government recommendationsScott Rothschild
A state advisory group is developing a series of informational and training videos on open government.
The Open Government Training Advisory Group is working on putting together short informational videos about the Kansas open meetings and open records laws. These videos will be directed to various audiences, including governing bodies, such as school boards, public employees, and attorneys.
Eventually, the videos will be housed on the Kansas Attorney General website. The advisory group also wants open government resources housed on the Attorney General website, including Kansas Attorney General opinions, the Kansas Legislature’s Briefing Book, and an easy-to-print online copy of A Citizen’s Guide to the Kansas Open Meetings Act and Kansas Open Records Act.
The advisory group was formed by Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt after legislators directed Schmidt to establish training programs to promote knowledge and compliance with the Kansas open meetings and open records laws.
The group includes 14 members, including representation of KASB. Attorney Deryl Wynn served as KASB’s representative last year and Tracey Hannah, an attorney and Basehor-Linwood USD 458 school board member, will serve as KASB’s representative this year.
