KASB’s Annual Conference room block, registration opens MondayScott Rothschild
Outstanding speakers, three rounds of breakout sessions and the ever-popular vendor exhibits and trade show are just a few of the highlights planned for the 2017 KASB Annual Conference Dec. 1, 2 and 3 in Wichita. This year’s annual conference has a unique twist: the celebration of KASB’s 100th year of service!
The room block and conference registration opens at 8 a.m. Mon. Oct. 2. Find more information online at www.kasb.org/kasbcon.
KASB member organization receives one free full registration to the conference, making it easier to bring your team and get the most out of this opportunity. Pre-conference sessions start Fri. Dec. 1, with the grand opening of exhibits and vendor reception that evening. Saturday features a vast array of breakout sessions, workshops and presentations while Sunday includes regional elections and the Delegate Assembly when we select our next leader and discuss and approve changes to our legislative platform.
Friday features pre-conference workshops for Meeting All Kids Needs district tours, Winter School Law Conference and KSSA Day. KASB has added an additional Friday pre-conference session for newly elected board members called Foundations of Boardsmanship. This training is useful for any board of education member – newly elected, just appointed or veteran. And attending as a team – with the superintendent and a fellow board member who can serve as a mentor – is an excellent way to develop a shared understanding of challenges and opportunities at the local level! This workshop features a special registration fee for newly elected board members who attend the conference as well as mentors such as superintendents, clerks and current board of education members. Visit www.kasb.org/kasbcon and go to the “Registration Info” tab for detailed information.
Saturday, Dec. 2 features a general session with Matt Beaudreau from the Center for Generational Kinetics, three rounds of breakout sessions, a networking lunch with exhibitors, vendor workshops and a general session with Kansas Education Commissioner Dr. Randy Watson and Deputy Commissioner Dale Dennis.
A special don’t miss event celebration of KASB’s 100th Year of Service will occur at the Sat. Dec. 2 Reception and Banquet. This event is open to convention registrants. However, it is a ticketed event so please be sure to register in advance. KASB cannot guarantee space will be available for walk-ins.
Sunday, Dec. 3 features the traditional inspirational session, this year featuring “Reflections on KASB” by John Koepke, who retired in 2010 as executive director. This will be followed by regional elections and the annual KASB Delegate Assembly. For those not attending delegate assembly, KASB’s leadership and legal teams will present learning clusters on special topics.
“The theme of KASB’s 100th anniversary is `Understanding our past; Imagining our future.’ I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to get the most out of your KASB membership and help us launch into the next 100 years of helping our students succeed,” said KASB President Dayna Miller, Basehor-Linwood USD 458. “I look forward to seeing you in Wichita,” she said.
