KASB President Miller interviewed on national broadcast about Kansas school funding situation

On a national radio broadcast Monday, KASB President Dayna Miller said she is hopeful that new Gov. Jeff Colyer will work to secure the funds needed to improve public education in Kansas and resolve the school finance litigation.  “We have a good relationship with Gov. Colyer and so we’re hopeful that that means an increase (in funding) and that means support throughout the Legislature,” Miller said during an interview on The Takeaway. Shannon Kimball, of Lawrence USD 497 school board, elected President-Elect-Designee of KASB

Shannon Kimball, president of the Lawrence USD 497 Board of Education, was elected Sunday as KASB President-Elect-Designee.  Kimball faced no opposition and was elected unanimously at the KASB Delegate Assembly during the association’s annual convention in Wichita.  “I will work to support and further KASB’s role as the voice of public education in Kansas. SBR: KASB celebrates 100 years of service

KASB celebrated its centennial anniversary at its annual conference in Wichita by reflecting on its past of service to public education and preparing for a future that promises to be dominated by rapid change. From Friday through Sunday, more than 500 school board members and administrators from across the state attended the event, which offered dozens of educational sessions, leadership training, school visits and more than 100 exhibitors. Lawrence’s Kimball nominated as candidate for KASB president-elect designee

Shannon Kimball, a member of the Lawrence USD 497 school board, has been endorsed by the KASB Nominating Committee as a candidate for president-elect designee for KASB.  The Nominating Committee met Saturday to interview Kimball. The committee presents to the KASB Delegate Assembly one or more qualified candidates for the office each year. A voter’s guide, which serves as the KASB Nominating Committee Report, will be distributed at the KASB Fall Regional Meetings and will be available online. KASB Nominating Committee to meet Saturday

The KASB Nominating Committee will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday to nominate a school board member to serve as president-elect designee of KASB.  The position will be up for election at the annual KASB Convention in Wichita Dec. 1-3.  The president-elect designee serves as an ex-officio, non-voting member of the board of directors until assuming the office of president-elect. The deadline to apply for the position was Aug. 30.  The only candidate to have applied is Shannon Kimball, a school board member with Lawrence USD 497.

Kansas Education Commissioner Watson briefs KASB on major school issues

Kansas Education Commissioner Randy Watson on Saturday outlined the Kansans Can goal and changes needed in public education during a joint meeting of the KASB Board of Directors and Legislative Committee.  The Kansans Can vision of leading the world in the success of each student is what Kansans have said they want and what is needed to help students compete in the modern economy, Watson said.  Watson said a recent report showed most workers earning less than $20 per hour will eventually lose their jobs to automation. KASB seeks candidates for president-elect designee

The KASB Nominating Committee is seeking applications for nominations to serve as president-elect designee. Applications for the position must be emailed or postmarked by Aug. 30. The position will be up for election at the annual KASB Convention in December. The president-elect designee serves as an ex-officio, non-voting member of the board of directors until assuming the office of president-elect. KASB Board of Directors Transition

With the new fiscal year, comes a changing of leadership positions at KASB. Dayna Miller, a member of the Basehor-Linwood USD 458 school board, will serve as president, while Patrick Woods, of the Topeka USD 501 school board, became president-elect. Former president Amy Martin, whose term expired June 30, will serve as chair of the Legislative Committee, as well as continue on the KASB board of directors and executive committee.
