KASB accepting nominations for Leadership Class of 2020Austin Harris
The Kansas Association of School Boards is accepting nominations for the Leadership for Tomorrow Class of 2020. Any past graduate of the program can nominate colleagues. Individuals can self-nominate and current KASB members can also submit a nomination.
The program is open to any KASB member district’s school board member or school administrator. Because the program is highly interactive, participation is limited. Building-level leaders are encouraged to apply. Board members and district-level administration will be given priority
Deadline for nominations is Jan. 17, 2020. Once nominated an application and further instructions will be sent to the nominee, and all applications to participate will be due Feb. 3, 2020. Participants will be notified by Feb. 14, 20120.
The program gives board members, superintendents and administrators time to explore change theories and strategies, gain training in leadership skills and expand understanding of education key issues for effective governance and raising student achievement. Visits to schools, classroom observations and presentations provide a foundation for class discussions.
Keith Griffin, Seaman USD 345 board of education and 2019 graduate of the program, said visiting schools and getting to know his classmates were just two of many reasons the experience was beneficial.
“Last Spring I didn’t know anyone in the class, and now not only have I have gained some good friends, but my resources as a board member are greater than they were before,” he said.
Through five two-day sessions, the KASB Leadership for Tomorrow program creates a greater understanding of the Kansas public education system and provides opportunities to develop leadership skills for effective governance and raising student achievement.
