KASB launches regional meetings focusing on reinvestment, redesign and resultsScott Rothschild
The Kansas Association of School Boards is launching four weeks of regional meetings, school visits and social media to promote understanding of a “New Day” for Kansas public education.
KASB will focus on three areas:
- Reinvest – After years of falling behind inflation and other states, school districts are using additional funding to restore programs and people cut since 2009 and adding new programs to help students, families and communities. Research shows education funding is real investment in the state’s future.
- Redesign – Each of 10 regional meetings will feature presentations from school leaders who are part of the State Board of Education’s Mercury or Gemini school redesign projects, or are implementing other new strategies. Adopting new methods to improve student success is the main conversation for attendees.
- Results – KASB meetings will discuss the State Board’s Kansans Can Vision; the new school accreditation system and postsecondary success and effectiveness measures taking effect this year; and KASB’s new Comparing Kansas report that shows how Kansas educational outcomes and funding stack up against other states.
The 10 KASB regional meetings are held for school board members and district administration. State Legislators and State Board of Education members are also invited to attend. Meetings began at 5 p.m. with a meal, followed by presentations and conversations about new directions in education at the local level. Attendees will also discuss upcoming issues at the state and federal level. Meetings will conclude at 8 p.m.
KASB staff and leadership will be available for media interviews from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at each meeting site, and will also be available for interviews with newspapers, radio and television during the day. KASB will be extensively covering the activities on social media, and will be releasing new information on how school districts are investing new resources, developing new ways to improve learning, and preparing more students for success.
