Legislative Budget Committee to review governor’s allotment plan

The Legislative Budget Committee will meet Wednesday (July 15) to consider the state budget, including school funding, and COVID-related issues.

The one-day meeting is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Here is a link to the agenda and here is a link to listen to the meeting and here is a link to watch the meeting.

The committee, made up of leading House and Senate budget members, will include a discussion of Gov. Laura Kelly’s allotment plan to reduce spending to address a dramatic revenue shortfall caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Numerous agencies are scheduled to testify to the committee, including the Kansas State Department of Education.

Kelly’s plan avoids cuts to the main parts of K-12 funding by delaying payments on state debt, using federal aid for the COVID pandemic and delaying more end-of-the-year school finance payments, as well as numerous relatively small cuts in selected programs.
