KASB’s district leadership program continues Thursday and Friday with a BOLD session on financing and building school construction projects.
BOLD stands for the Business Operations Leadership Development program, which focuses on developing knowledge on building and facilities master planning, technology planning, finance strategies, procurement processes, school security, risk management and human resources. BOLD includes six training sessions that were developed by KASB leadership staff, KASB partners and experts from across the state.
This week’s session will be hosted by Basehor-Linwood USD 478.
From noon to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, BOLD participants will attend sessions on preparing for a bond, how projects are financed, hiring an architect and construction manager and other aspects of bond proposals.
From 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday, BOLD participations will focus on what happens after a bond issue is approved, including the construction process, role of the superintendent, site management issues and other activities.
Presenters include Mark Franzen and Elizabeth Johnson of HTK Architects; Dustin Avey and Clayton Kelly II of Piper Jaffray; Darin Headrick of McGown Gordon Construction and Basehor-Linwood Superintendent David Howard.
In November, BOLD members gathered in Goddard to hear presentations focusing on food service and technology. In October, BOLD participants met in Lawrence learning about board relationships.
