How long have you been a school board member? I have served on the Board of Education for 36 years.
Why did you decide to become a board member? There was talk in the 1980’s of doing away with vocational programs. I have been a strong supporter of vocational programs for a very long time. At that time there was more supporters set on just college than vocational programs.
Who was an adult you looked up to when you were growing up and why? My grandfather. He was a person I really admired. He was an honest, caring man and I tremendously respected him. Honest as a day is long.
Who was your favorite teacher and why? My favorite teacher was James Hundley, my Ag teacher because it was really my favorite subject. Or my football coach, Marian Smith. I would say it is a toss up between the two of them.
What do you do outside of being a board member? I am a local farmer and also own a seed business.
What experience do you bring to the table that will improve your local school district? Being a board member for 36 years, you become experienced as you continue to be a part of it throughout the years. I have run a successful business; being a business person I understand the business aspect along with educational side as well.
As a board member, what is the top goal you have this year? My goal every year is to keep giving a high level of education for our students.
