KASB to offer two online sessions today: Advocacy and `Leadership Through a New Lens’Scott Rothschild
KASB will conduct two online sessions today (May 18) — one to help new school board members and one to provide an advocacy update on budget issues, the 2020 legislative session and State Board of Education developments.
The advocacy session, which starts at noon today, is available to all who receive the KASB News Briefs, including board members, educators, advocates and media.
There is no registration fee but pre-registration is required. To register in advance for this meeting, go to this link. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
The session will feature updates on state and federal issues as the Legislature prepares for a one-day end of session on Thursday, May 21, and Congress considers further stimulus in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The session will also feature a review of developments on continuous learning, early childhood programs, the re-start of school in August and other issues before the State Board of Education.
The online session for new and nearly new school board members — “Leadership Through a New Lens” — was developed for members who took their positions shortly before the coronavirus pandemic and didn’t have much time to personally work with and learn from more experienced board members. It will start at 6 p.m. today (May 18)
These Foundations of Boardsmanship 2.0 sessions focus on the governance role of the board, including setting expectations, the board’s relationship with the superintendent, what makes a great board leadership team and the importance of emphasizing communication with all stakeholders.
The evening sessions will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today and Wednesday, May 20. A morning session will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19. For more details and to register, go to this link.
