KASB’s Rothschild to present at national conferenceScott Rothschild
KASB Communications Editor Scott Rothschild will give a presentation on the “Get an A in Voting” campaign and other 2018 election season efforts this weekend at the Council of School Boards Associations Communicators (COSBAC) annual conference in Alexandria, Virginia.
“Get an A in Voting” was a non-partisan, statewide public awareness campaign by public education groups, including KASB, and coordinated by Greenbush — the Southeast Kansas Education Service Center — to foster civic engagement through increased voter turnout in the 2018 general election.
Other groups involved were United School Administrators of Kansas, Kansas PTA, KanSRPA, Game On for Kansas Schools, Kansas Association of Special Education Administrators and the Kansas Association of Education Service Centers.
The campaign included social media posts, an online toolkit of graphics and key voter registration information. KASB also provided news stories and a website filled with voter registration information and materials.
Kansas voters turned out in record numbers in the general election, with 57.6 percent of registered voters heading to the polls. In 2014, turnout was 51 percent; half of the state’s registered voters cast ballots in 2010. Several factors, including “Get an A in Voting,” contributed to that record turnout.
COSBAC represents school board association writers and publicists from across the nation and is a subsidiary of the National School Boards Association.
Rothschild joined KASB in 2014 after 30 years in journalism, including the Lawrence Journal-World, Wichita Eagle and The Associated Press.
