KSHSAA board rejects delaying start of high school sports

Fall high school sports — practices and competitions — may start as originally scheduled on Aug. 17, according to the Kansas State High School Activities Association Executive Board.

The board voted 5-4 against delaying the start due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Local school boards, however, can change start dates within their own districts based on local and county health recommendations.

The vote came after KSHSAA last week released guidelines for the year, which remain in effect. Here is a link to the general guidelines and link to activity-specific guidelines.

Of the 50 states and Washington, D.C., 27 made no changes to their fall sports seasons while 24 had modified them and six had moved fall football to the spring, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations.
