How long have you been a school board member? Four years.

Why did you decide to become a board member? Both of my parents were teachers, and my mother and paternal grandfather were school board members.Teaching and love of community are in my blood. After working on failed bond issues, I decided that another approach was needed.

Who was an adult you looked up to when you were growing up and why? My Grandfather, he was educated and managed six lumberyards, but made his customers and community members feel welcome and needed regardless of their education or economic status.

Who was your favorite teacher and why? Mr. Weiss, he presented American History in a meaningful, relevant, and exciting manner.

What do you do outside of being a board member? I am retired but remain very active in organizations and community work. Libraries are also an important part of my life. I have served eight years as Effingham Library Board president, At-Large Representative on Friends of Kansas Libraries Board, President of State Library Board for two years, and the Six by Six Coordinator with local Parents as Teachers. In 2017, I received the Kansas Library Association Presidential award of Library Advocate. Additionally on November 16, 2017, the North East Kansas Library System staff and membership awarded a proclamation to honor my service. I also serve on my church board, as well as several community organizations.

What experience do you bring to the table that will improve your local school district? I was an elementary teacher for 19 years and elementary principal for 12 years, This along with my passion for our community

>As a board member, what is the top goal you have this year? To bring the communities in our school district together for the benefit of our students.

What is a saying or quote that you live by? Do unto others as you want others to do unto you.
