Foundations of Boardsmanship

KASB provides training for new board members (often referred to as "new board member workshops.")  Training can also be scheduled onsite by calling KASB's leadership services.

KASB’s Foundations of Boardsmanship 1.0 provides dynamic, interactive presentations and time for collaboration and discussion focused around the skills and knowledge you need to be an exceptional board member. Foundations of Boardsmanship training is useful for any board of education member - newly elected, just appointed or veteran. And attending as a team - with the superintendent and a fellow board member who can serve as a mentor - is an excellent way to develop shared understanding of challenges and opportunities at the local level. Topics include (1) establishing the vision for the district; (2) setting priorities and goals; (3) creating policies; (4) hiring and evaluating the superintendent of schools; (5) holding the superintendent accountable for accomplishing district goals; and (6) helping build support for public education.

  • February 29, 2020, Haysville, The Learning Center (rescheduled from Jan 11)
  • December 6, 2019, Wichita, Hyatt Regency (Pre-Conference Session for KASB Annual Conference)
  • January 16, 2020, Topeka, Maner Conference Center
  • January 25, 2020, Hays, The Venue and Greenbush ESC
  • February 8, 2020, Garden City, Board Office
  • February 15, 2020, Topeka, KASB

KASB also offers an Introduction to Foundations of Boardsmanship 1.0. This two-hour workshop covers only the basics of conducting a board meeting.
