Tune In to the New Blue Ribbon Task Force on Student Screen Time
The Kansas State Board of Education has launched the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Student Screen Time to tackle critical issues around technology use in schools. This task force, made up of 36 diverse members—including board members, superintendents, principals, teachers, students, parents, IT staff and legislators—will provide recommendations on the use of personal devices, screen time's impact on mental health and parental oversight of district-owned devices.
Local board members are encouraged to tune in to the task force meetings via livestream to gain insights into these important discussions. The task force will meet every Thursday from 4-5:30 p.m., with the first meeting set for Aug. 22. Visit the task force website for more details on meeting schedules, agendas and how to participate.
“These discussions can equip local leaders to consider the best solutions for their schools and the people they serve,” said Angie Stallbaumer, KASB deputy director and general counsel. “We encourage KASB members to take part in these meetings to gain a broader view of the risks and opportunities that come with use of technology in schools.”
