KASB Delegates Elect New Leadership, Approve 2026 Legislative Priorities

KASB’s annual Delegate Assembly took place on Saturday, Nov. 15, during the 2025 KASB Convention in Wichita. Each member district appoints one voting delegate, and together they made important decisions that will guide KASB in the year ahead. We thank all our members for participating and helping shape the direction of our organization.
We’re thrilled to congratulate Curt Herrman (Manhattan-Ogden USD 383) on being elected President-Elect Designee!
Delegates also elected new regional vice presidents to help lead KASB’s work across the state:
- Region 4: Curt Herrman, Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 (A new Region 4 Vice President will be appointed in January when Curt begins his term as President-Elect)
- Region 5: Joe Ryan, Smoky Valley USD 400
- Region 6: Brian Fitch, Argonia USD 359
- Region 10: Dan Patterson, Lakin USD 215
KASB’s 2026 Legislative Priorities were also decided by our delegates, which will guide our advocacy efforts in the coming year and especially during the 2026 Legislative Session. Top priorities include fully funding special education, supporting teacher and staff recruitment and retention, sustaining the school finance formula, protecting local control and ensuring taxpayer dollars go to public schools.
See the full list of legislative priorities on our website.
We also want to give a heartfelt thank you to our outgoing KASB board members for their service and leadership:
- TinaRae Scott, Past President, Morris County USD 417
- Kelly Franke, Region 2 Vice President, Paola USD 368
- Jordan Buxton, Region 6 Vice President, Circle USD 375
- Donna Hoener-Queal, Region 8 Vice President, Pratt USD 382
- Kristina Lemman, Region 9 Vice President, Colby USD 315
- Ryan Ausmus, Region 10 Vice President, Dodge City USD 443
Your dedication and guidance have made a real difference for KASB and Kansas public schools, and we’re grateful for everything you’ve done.
KASB President Emily Riner will appoint regional vice presidents to regions 2, 8 and 9 at the January Board of Directors meeting. These positions became vacant due to the regional vice presidents' terms on their local boards coming to an end. The appointees will serve until the 2026 Delegate Assembly, where a regional election can be held.
Congratulations to our newly elected leaders as they begin their terms in January, and thanks again to all members and outgoing board members for helping shape our organization’s future.
