June 2026 - KASB Board of Directors Meeting Summary

The KASB Board of Directors met in Salina on June 5-6, for a board retreat and regular business meeting focused on leadership development, strategic planning and organizational priorities.
During the June 5 retreat, board members participated in a facilitated Working Genius session that helped individuals identify their unique strengths and better understand how those strengths contribute to effective teamwork. Following the presentation, the board reviewed KASB's strategic planning document and engaged in discussions to identify key topics and areas of interest for FY2027. These priorities will help shape future board learning opportunities and strategic initiatives.
The board reconvened June 6 for its regular meeting. Dr. Cindy Lane provided a legislative update with an emphasis on the Blueprint for Literacy and its implications for Kansas schools. Board members also received a legislative summary and candidate information document from Leah Fliter to support their advocacy efforts and awareness of upcoming elections.
Kristin Magette presented updates from the Communication Services Department, highlighting current projects and resources available to assist member districts. Ceri Goulter shared results from the recent KASB Member Needs Survey, outlining key member priorities and identifying opportunities to strengthen services and support.
Staff also reviewed upcoming Board of Directors elections and discussed seats approaching term limits to prepare for future leadership transitions.
The board approved the FY2027 budget and received a workers' compensation update and Executive Director's report from Dr. Brian Jordan. In addition, KASB vice presidents participated in a work session focused on resources and tools available to support them in their leadership roles.
The next meeting of the KASB Board of Directors is scheduled for Aug. 22, 2026, in Topeka.
