As the Kansas Legislature heads into the final days of the 2024 session, KASB’s team will be following key issues and sharing updates.  

In particular, K-12 organizations are watching for a final draft of the conference committee report on House Sub for Senate Bill 387. This agreement, from the early morning hours of April 6, is still awaiting signatures from the conference committee before heading for an up or down vote in both the House and Senate.  

The final agreement from the conference committee has not been published, leaving some uncertainty about the details included. KASB continues to expect the agreement will include full Gannon funding and $75.3M in additional special education aid, among other items. Click here to read more about the April 6 agreement, which had unified support from KASB, USA|Kansas, KNEA and the Kansas Board of Education. 

“We are still waiting to see a final version of the conference committee report,” said Leah Fliter, KASB assistant executive director of advocacy and governmental relations. “KASB will be monitoring closely in the next few days to ensure the agreement we supported is finalized.” 

Apart from the work on House Sub for SB 387, KASB will also be monitoring tax and budget committee meetings beginning on Thursday to wrap up unfinished business before Sine Die, or the end of the session.
