We are excites to welcome two new attorneys to our Legal Team. Together, they bring extensive experience in government service, public policy and legal counsel, along with a shared commitment to supporting Kansas public schools.

Their background and experience will strengthen the legal guidance and support available to KASB members. Both attorneys are passionate about serving Kansas communities and helping school boards and district leaders navigate complex legal issues with confidence.

Scott Gordon, Attorney

Scott Gordon joins KASB after nearly 14 years with the Kansas State Department of Education, where he served as general counsel since 2014 and as an attorney beginning in 2012. Prior to joining KSDE, Scott worked as an assistant district attorney in Wichita.

Throughout his career, Scott has advised educational leaders on a wide range of legal matters affecting Kansas schools. After many years in state government, he was ready for a new professional challenge while continuing to serve public education. At KASB, he looks forward to expanding his areas of legal practice and helping school districts address the evolving issues they face.

Dylan Avery, Attorney

Dylan Avery joins KASB from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, where he served as associate chief counsel for public health. A graduate of Topeka Public Schools, Dylan believes strong public education is essential to the success of Kansas communities and the state's future.

He was drawn to KASB by the opportunity to use his legal experience to support public education across Kansas. Dylan is especially excited to be part of KASB's legal team becasue of the collaborative culture, deep institutional knowledge and commitment to serving members. He looks forward to partnering with school boards and district leaders to help them navigate legal challenges and support student success.
