KASB offers customized training and professional learning opportunities designed to support effective governance, strong leadership and successful schools. Communication Services

Communication is at the heart of strong schools and strong communities. KASB Communication Services helps educators and district leaders build trust, improve stakeholder engagement and strengthen relationships with students, families, staff and community members.

  • Length: 1-2 hours
    Audience: Frontline staff and/or administrators 

    Whether your next customer is right or wrong, every interaction is an opportunity to model core values of care, compassion and community. Workshop participants will leave with practical strategies they can use individually and as a team, as well as a deeper understanding of the difference great customer service can make at the first impression and beyond.

    Audience Teachers and other educators

    The life of a teacher is busy, demanding and can start to feel never-ending! Setting aside just 10 minutes a day, before or after school, can help even the busiest teacher build meaningful relationships with students’ families. Workshop participants will learn strategies and habits to make the most of a short, realistic time each day.

    Take the guesswork out of negotiations with this practical training designed for real-world impact. Participants will learn the negotiation process from start to finish, including notice requirements, deadlines, bargaining procedures and impasse options. The session also provides practical guidance for evaluating proposals, identifying priorities and developing effective negotiation strategies.

    Audience: Board Members, Board Clerks and Superintendents

    Transparency is critical to public trust. This training helps participants understand when a gathering becomes a meeting under Kansas law, how executive sessions may be used and the requirements for conducting meetings in compliance with KOMA. The session also explores common misconceptions and frequent compliance pitfalls.

    Audience: Administrators, Records Custodians and Board Members

    Participants will learn which records must be disclosed, which records may be withheld under statutory exceptions and how districts should respond to records requests. This session provides practical guidance to support both transparency and legal compliance.

Topics may include legislative updates, court decisions, emerging legal trends, policy implementation or district-specific concerns. This session reviews mandatory reporting requirements, signs of abuse and neglect and the procedures staff should follow when concerns arise. Participants will also learn about legal protections available to those who make reports in good faith.

This session examines cyberbullying, online misconduct, school authority and constitutional free speech protections, helping leaders understand when and how districts may respond to student activity occurring online.

    Protecting student information is a critical responsibility for school districts. This training covers the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Kansas Student Data Privacy Act (SDPA), including access to records, parent and student rights, data collection limitations and best practices for safeguarding sensitive information.

    Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the legal requirements surrounding identification, evaluation and support of students eligible under Section 504. The session addresses accommodation plans, extracurricular access, disciplinary protections and district responsibilities for ensuring equal educational opportunities.

    This comprehensive training examines a district's responsibilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.     Designed around the district's specific needs, these sessions address key employment law and personnel topics, including onboarding and offboarding employees, investigations, overtime requirements, employee classifications, disability accommodations, family and medical leave requirements, termination procedures and personnel best practices.

    A well-executed investigation is essential to sound decision-making. This training explores legal requirements, confidentiality concerns, due process obligations and best practices for investigating complaints involving students, employees and other stakeholders. Participants will learn strategies for conducting fair, thorough and defensible investigations.

    Audience: All Certified and Classified Staff

    Every employee has a role in maintaining a learning environment free from sex-based discrimination and harassment. This training explains staff responsibilities under Title IX, reporting obligations and the steps districts must take when concerns arise.

    Audience: Coordinators, Investigators, Decision-Makers, Appeal Decision-Makers and Administrators

    This advanced training provides the specialized instruction required for personnel responsible for implementing Title IX procedures. Participants will learn the formal complaint process, investigation requirements, decision-making responsibilities, appeals procedures and informal resolution options while ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
